Installation Problems

Message: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"

This message can appear during dtSearch Setup if you are upgrading from a previous version and your computer's Windows Installer database is damaged. When dtSearch Setup tries to uninstall the previous version of dtSearch, the Windows installer cannot find information about the previous installation and displays this message. The same message will appear if you try to uninstall dtSearch from the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.

Damage to the Windows Installer database can be caused by deletion of files in the Windows\Installer folder, or by registry "cleanup" utilities that may remove necessary file links in the registry. When Windows Installer cannot find its internal copy of the data, it looks for the data in the folder originally used to run setup, which may be a temporary folder that no longer exists. This is why the message often includes a reference to an MSI file in a non-existent folder.

To resolve this problem,

(1) Run the dtSearch setup program and click the "Repair" button instead of "Upgrade" or "Remove" when running the dtSearch Installer.

(2) If this does not solve the problem, use the Microsoft "Fix it" tool for installation problems to remove the dtSearch product information, and then reinstall dtSearch:
